Ocean County grand jury indicts man in death of 28 year old woman

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, NJ – A 30-year-old Jackson Township man has been indicted on murder and weapons charges in the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old woman found in the roadway of an apartment complex last fall, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said a grand jury returned an indictment against Shaquille Green on charges of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon in connection with the death of Toraya Reid on Sept. 6 in Jackson Township.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 11:00 a.m. that day after a 911 caller reported shots fired and an unresponsive woman in the roadway at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road. Responding officers located a woman near the exit of the complex who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as Reid, 28, of Jackson.

Additional officers in the area observed a man, later identified as Green, running on North New Prospect Road. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Jackson Township Police Headquarters.

According to the prosecutor’s office, an investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit identified Green, who had been in a dating relationship with Reid, as responsible for her death.

Green was charged and transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains detained pending trial.

Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Heisler presented the case to the grand jury on behalf of the state. The prosecutor’s office also acknowledged the involvement of the Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office in the investigation.

The charges are accusations, and Green is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
