Jackson schools announce two-hour delay after weekend snowstorm

JACKSON, N.J. – The Jackson School District announced a two-hour delayed opening for Monday following Sunday’s snowstorm that left roads icy and travel conditions hazardous across Ocean County.

The notice, posted Sunday evening, said the delay would allow additional time for road crews to treat surfaces and for morning sunlight to improve visibility and traction.

District officials said all students should report to their bus stops and schools two hours later than their normal start times.

Safety and schedule adjustments

The district confirmed that morning child care programs will be canceled Monday due to the delay. Families were advised to check the district’s website for detailed school and program hours.

Officials also outlined special transportation arrangements for students attending Ocean County Vocational-Technical programs and academies. Those attending MATES, ALPS, and GPAA will be picked up two hours later than usual and transported directly to their respective academies.

Updated Vo-Tech procedures

Students enrolled in the morning Vo-Tech session will not report to their vocational schools but instead attend their high schools, where they will remain in a designated area until their third-period class begins. Afternoon Vo-Tech students will follow their regular schedules, reporting first to Period 1 before being dismissed for their vocational programs.

The district said the delay was necessary to ensure buses and secondary roads are safe for travel following the weekend snowfall and overnight refreeze.
