Jackson township to examine roadway traffic concerns near brewers bridge road

Jackson Township Mayor Jennifer L. Kuhn and the Township Council have announced a joint initiative with Ocean County to improve traffic flow and safety along two of the town’s most congested roadways, Brewers Bridge Road and Cooksbridge Road.

Jackson Township officials are collaborating with the Ocean County Board of Commissioners, the Ocean County Road Department, the Jackson Police Department, the Jackson Board of Education, and the township’s civil engineers to implement comprehensive improvements aimed at easing congestion and enhancing roadway safety.

The proposed measures may include modifying the traffic signal at the intersection of Cooksbridge Road and Brewers Bridge Road, establishing dedicated turn-only lanes to streamline traffic movement, and adding a dedicated turning lane along Brewers Bridge Road.

The township will also examine traffic patterns around Jackson Township High School (formerly Jackson Liberty High School) and develop safe routes for pedestrians and cyclists through the installation of sidewalks, shoulder striping, signage, and other safety enhancements.

Often, there are back-ups that occur during the arrival and dismissal of the school. Therefore, making road improvements is crucial to the safety of students, staff, and the surrounding communities.

The township has already applied for federal Department of Transportation grants to help pay for this project.

Council President Mordechai Burnstein, who serves as the township’s liaison to the county, said he has relayed residents’ concerns to Ocean County officials. In response, the county and the township are actively working on an action plan to address the issues.
