Police say suspect fled toward a bridge after early-morning robbery
WASHINGTON, DC — An early-morning armed robbery near I Street and 23rd Street NW sent DC police searching Wednesday for a knife-wielding man who was last seen heading toward a bridge, according to a Metropolitan Police Department crime alert.
MPD units were investigating the armed robbery at the intersection of I Street NW and 23rd Street NW.
The department issued the crime alert at approximately 6:54 a.m. Wednesday.
Police described the person being sought as a Black male with dreadlocks and a slim build who was wearing a brown jacket.
The man was reported to be armed with a knife.
According to the alert, he was last seen traveling toward a bridge. Police did not specify which bridge in the initial notice.
MPD did not provide information about what was allegedly taken during the robbery or whether anyone was injured.
No additional description of the individual was included in the initial alert.
Police warned members of the public not to approach or take action if they encounter the person being sought and to call 911.
