Lakewood Historical Society to Offer Public Talk on Local History

LAKEWOOD, NJ – The Lakewood Historical Society and the Lakewood Heritage Commission have announced a public lecture to explore the town’s multifaceted history. The event will take place at the Lakewood Public Library on November 9 at 7:00 p.m.

Presenting the lecture will be Dr. Stan Liptzin, the chairperson of the Lakewood Historical Society and the director of the Lakewood Historical Museum. Dr. Liptzin, a resident of Lakewood since 1948, will cover a broad range of topics, from the town’s early settlement days, through its growth as an industrial and resort hub, to its current diverse and culturally rich status.

During the talk, attendees will have the opportunity to view historical artifacts from the Lakewood Historical Museum. These items serve as physical evidence of the town’s vibrant past.

Dr. Stan Liptzin is a Lakewood native and an educator with extensive ties to the community. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1955 and later went on to teach history at the same institution for 32 years. He has been inducted into multiple Halls of Fame for his contributions to education and athletics, particularly baseball, in Lakewood and the state of New Jersey.

The lecture aligns with the mission of both the Lakewood Historical Society and the Sheldon Wolpin Lakewood Historical Museum to celebrate and preserve the history of the town.

The Lakewood Historical Museum, located at Pine Park, is in need of funds for further restoration and expansion. It serves as a valuable resource for the community, showcasing Lakewood’s history through a variety of galleries and exhibits.

This public lecture offers a unique chance for residents and history enthusiasts to delve into the story of Lakewood, from its origins to its evolution into the town it is today.
