TRENTON, NJ – Republicans in New Jersey have presented a plan to the RNC that would allow party leaders to cancel the 2024 Presidential Primary Election and choose their own candidate among a handful of possibly hand-picked delegates.
Instead, a state committee would choose which Republican would go on the ballot next November. Voters would not be able to cast a ballot for their preferred candidate.
Instead of nearly 500,00 Republican voters having a say, the decision will be made by just over 600 party insiders.
New Jersey GOP Chairman Bob Hugin made the suggestion in a memo sent out to the 21 county chairmen.
Hirsh Singh, a perennial off-the-line candidate said the move is a way to circumvent the will of the voters by keeping Republicans from voting for their candidates.
“The party sent a memo to county chairs and state committee members only on Sunday informing them of this proposal. According to reports, the biggest beneficiary of this plan will be Chris Christie. Party insiders have a long standing history of collaborating with the media in suppressing candidates they don’t control,” sing said. “The move to scrap the Republican Presidential Primary to help one candidate must be opposed by everyone, and any state Republican official who votes for it must be removed from their position.”
Former President Donald J. Trump holds a major lead above all other candidates and the move could have New Jersey Republican leaders shutting the former President out of the process.
As of now, no final decision has been made.
