Lame Deer Man Sentenced to 14 Years for Voluntary Manslaughter

BILLINGS — Terence Arturo Limberhand, a 32-year-old resident of Lame Deer, received a 14-year prison sentence today, following a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter charges. His sentence includes an additional three years of supervised release and a restitution payment of $8,000, as ordered by U.S. District Judge Susan P. Watters.

The case, prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, stems from an incident on June 21, 2022, on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation. Court documents reveal that Limberhand, operating a four-wheeler, confronted John Doe outside a house near Lame Deer. A dispute involving Doe and an associate led Limberhand to perceive a threat to his family’s safety. This confrontation escalated when Limberhand shot Doe multiple times. Doe later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.

Limberhand’s arrest occurred five days post-incident. He approached individuals at a ranch outside Lame Deer, claiming he had received threats. Bureau of Indian Affairs officers apprehended Limberhand shortly thereafter.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the inquiry into this case.
