Methuen, MA – A 26-year-old man is charged with the murder of his mother in their home, where she was allegedly shot multiple times. Anthony Nunez-Romano is facing charges including murder, firearm possession without identification, and altering a firearm’s serial number.

During a Monday court session, the Assistant District Attorney noted that the mother, Dominga Romano, was found with signs of rigor mortis. Her remains were discovered wrapped in a comforter with her face covered by paper towels.

Witnesses reported that Nunez-Romano had a history of mental health issues and a fixation on inheriting the house. Romano, 55, was a local teacher described as a good woman by her peers.

Cops found her body on the second floor after a wellness check on Monday. Officers were alerted due to concerns from family members who had not heard from her since Saturday.

Nunez-Romano initially told officers that a shooting occurred from outside the home. A firearm was later recovered from a kitchen drawer along with shell casings.

Romano sustained gunshot wounds to her hip and neck. Family friends expressed disbelief following the incident, describing Nunez-Romano’s behavior as aggressive.

The case has drawn attention due to its tragic nature and the events leading to the alleged murder. Nunez-Romano pleaded not guilty and is set to appear in a probable cause hearing on February 20. He is currently held without bail.
