Man Arrested After Running Through Fatal Crash Scene While Laughing and Filming in Mattapan

Boston police say a 21-year-old man ran through an active crime scene, ignored officers’ commands, and dumped a liquid into the investigation area following a fatal pedestrian crash.

BOSTON — A Massachusetts man was arrested after allegedly disrupting an active crime scene tied to a fatal pedestrian collision in Mattapan, according to Boston police.

The incident occurred around 7 p.m. Saturday as officers assigned to District B-3 were securing the scene of a deadly motor vehicle crash near Blue Hill Avenue and Fairway Street.

Police said the crash had occurred hours earlier and investigators were still processing the scene when officers spotted a man entering the area despite police tape and restrictions.

Suspect allegedly filmed scene while laughing

According to the Boston Police Department, officers observed the suspect recording video of the crime scene while laughing.

As officers moved toward him, the man allegedly fled and began running through the secured investigation area.

Police said he ignored repeated verbal commands to stop and continued moving through the scene while recording video.

Liquid dumped into active investigation area

Investigators said the suspect then poured the contents of a cup containing an unknown liquid into the middle of the crime scene.

The man allegedly continued running around the area while laughing and filming before officers pursued him.

After briefly evading several officers, the suspect was ultimately taken into custody on the median of Blue Hill Avenue.

Charges filed

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old Robert Monestime of Braintree.

Monestime was arrested at the scene and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

He faces charges of disturbing the peace and interfering with a police officer.

Authorities have not indicated whether the alleged actions affected evidence collection or the ongoing investigation into the fatal pedestrian collision.
