Man critically injured in broad daylight Columbus shooting as cops hunt cyclist

August 17, 2025

COLUMBUS, OH – A man was left unresponsive after being shot in broad daylight on the city’s west side, and now detectives are searching for a person of interest spotted riding a bicycle near the scene.

The shooting happened around 1:42 p.m. Thursday in the 1200 block of W. Broad Street. Responding officers found an adult male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where his condition was described as critical.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the Columbus Division of Police has turned the case over to its Homicide Unit for further investigation. Detectives have released an image of a man seen riding a bicycle in the area at the time of the incident, identifying him as a person of interest.

Officials have not confirmed whether the cyclist is the shooter, an accomplice, or a witness. Police are now asking for the public’s help in identifying the individual, who they believe could provide crucial information in the case.

No suspect has been arrested, and the victim’s identity has not yet been released.
