BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – A beach emergency unfolded Wednesday evening when two swimmers were swept into distressing conditions off the shore of South Seaside Park, prompting a swift water rescue response.
At approximately 6:40 p.m., emergency units were dispatched to the oceanfront near 23rd Avenue after reports came in of swimmers struggling in the surf. One of the individuals managed to return to shore without assistance, while the second was pulled back in by Seaside Fire Rescue.
Both swimmers were adults and declined medical treatment after being evaluated by Tri-Boro First Aid personnel on scene. No injuries were reported.
The incident occurred in an unguarded area of the beach. Authorities emphasized the risks of swimming outside of designated lifeguard zones, especially as rip currents remain a persistent danger along the Jersey Shore.
Officials did not release the names of the individuals involved, but reminded beachgoers that even experienced swimmers can face peril in unpredictable ocean conditions.
