Police say Boone Street encounter left victim with visible injuries
CUMBERLAND, MD — A dispute on Boone Street ended with a phone allegedly grabbed, a victim scratched on the neck and water thrown in their face, resulting in a second-degree assault charge against a 26-year-old Cumberland woman, police said.
The alleged assault occurred Friday on Boone Street and was investigated by the Cumberland Police Department.
According to a police press release, an officer contacted the victim at the scene and was told that Selena Grace Rinehart had grabbed the victim’s phone, scratched the back of their neck and thrown water in their face.
Police said officers observed injuries that were consistent with the victim’s account.
The responding officer did not make contact with Rinehart at the scene, according to police.
Charges were later filed against Rinehart in District Court, resulting in the issuance of a criminal summons.
Cumberland Police served Rinehart with the summons Saturday. She was charged with second-degree assault.
Rinehart signed for her copy of the summons and was released pending trial in District Court.
The charge is an accusation. Rinehart is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
