Man Fatally Shot by Alexandria Police in Alleged Armed Encounter

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Alexandria police officers shot and killed a man allegedly armed with a gun late Monday night.

The Alexandria Police Department reported that officers responded to a call just after 10:45 p.m. in the 5100 block of Maris Avenue, near the Parkside at Alexandria condominium complex. Upon arrival, officers encountered a man in a stairwell who was reportedly holding a gun.

According to police, officers then shot the man, who died at the scene. Witnesses reported seeing several officers running toward the building and hearing approximately three gunshots.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was described by neighbors as a kind and good person. No injuries were reported among the officers or bystanders.

The regional Critical Incident Response Team is leading the investigation into the shooting.
