Man killed in Woodland Avenue crash after being dragged beneath car in Southwest Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – A 62-year-old man was killed Wednesday night after being struck and dragged beneath a vehicle in a crash that unfolded along the 5100 block of Woodland Avenue in the city’s 12th District.

Police responded around 7:20 p.m. to reports of a man down on the roadway and found the victim unresponsive. Medics pronounced him dead at 7:47 p.m., authorities said.

During the investigation, officers traced a silver 2010 Hyundai to a nearby Popeye’s restaurant on the 5200 block of Woodland Avenue. The 75-year-old woman behind the wheel told investigators she believed she had driven over an object—possibly a piece of carpet—near 35th Street and Grays Ferry Avenue. She continued driving until she reached the restaurant, where the body reportedly dislodged from beneath her vehicle as she parked.

Investigators are working to determine whether the Hyundai was the first vehicle to hit the man or a secondary striking vehicle. No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed pending the outcome of the investigation by the Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Division.
