Drunk driver with extreme BAC gets up to 10 years after devastating pedestrian crash

Manheim Township, PA — A Lancaster County man will spend years behind bars after a high-speed drunken crash left a pedestrian with life-altering injuries, shocking a judge who said he had never seen a blood alcohol level that high.

Tyler Anthony Stewart, 32, was sentenced April 2 to two and a half to 10 years in state prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence.

Prosecutors said Stewart had a blood alcohol content of 0.437% at the time of the crash — more than five times Pennsylvania’s legal limit.

The incident occurred October 18, 2024, in the 1500 block of Oregon Pike, where Stewart struck a pedestrian while speeding and driving without headlights shortly before 11 p.m.

Video footage reviewed by investigators showed Stewart traveling about twice the posted speed limit before the crash.

The victim suffered a traumatic brain injury and multiple broken bones, including injuries to the pelvis and spine, and required months of intensive medical treatment.

Police responding to the scene found the victim severely injured in the roadway. During the response, officers observed Stewart crash into a pole in a nearby parking lot. His vehicle showed damage consistent with striking a person.

Authorities later confirmed Stewart’s license was suspended at the time of the crash.

He told police he had consumed alcohol prior to driving and believed he may have hit a pedestrian.

In addition to prison time, Stewart was ordered to pay a $1,275 fine.
