Man Shot Multiple Times During Parking Lot Fight in Woodbridge Dies at Hospital

WOODBRIDGE, Va. — A 42-year-old man died after being shot multiple times during a confrontation in a Woodbridge parking lot Monday night, according to Prince William County police, who said the suspects fled before officers arrived.

Police identified the victim Tuesday as Frances Joseph Douglas, 42, of Bowling Green.

Officers responded around 8:58 p.m. Monday to the 1200 block of Potomac Vista Drive in Woodbridge to investigate reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they learned the victim had already been transported to a hospital by a family member after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Douglas later died from his injuries at the hospital.

Investigators said the shooting happened after Douglas became involved in a physical altercation with another man in the parking lot. During the encounter, a third man joined the confrontation, pulled out a firearm, and shot Douglas multiple times before fleeing the area with the other suspect.

Police Say Shooting Does Not Appear Random

Prince William County police said preliminary findings indicate the shooting was not a random act.

According to investigators, Douglas was able to return to his vehicle after the shooting before a family member drove him to an area hospital. Authorities did not specify how far the victim traveled before receiving medical treatment.

Detectives have not released descriptions of the suspects or said whether the men involved knew each other prior to the confrontation.

Police also have not announced any arrests as of Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting remains under active investigation as detectives work to identify the suspects and determine what led to the deadly encounter.
