Early-morning attack leaves victim injured before nearby officers catch suspect
HARRISBURG, PA – A man allegedly turned two dogs and a baseball bat on another person during a violent robbery attempt outside a Harrisburg gas and grocery store early Monday, leaving the victim injured before officers caught the 35-year-old suspect nearby, according to Harrisburg Police.
Brandon Dequan Turner, 35, was arrested following the incident near Gas and Grocery at 512 S. 29th St.
Harrisburg Bureau of Police officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 2:40 a.m. Monday for an active robbery involving a reported dog attack.
Swatara Police officers were monitoring the call and were already close to the location, according to Harrisburg Police.
Those officers responded to assist and located a suspect in the area.
Police detained the man until Harrisburg officers arrived a short time later.
He was identified by police as Turner.
Investigators subsequently obtained security footage that police said captured the confrontation.
According to Harrisburg Police, the footage showed Turner using a baseball bat and his two dogs to attack the victim while attempting to steal the keys to the victim’s vehicle.
The victim suffered injuries during the incident and received treatment at a local hospital.
Police did not disclose the extent of those injuries in the arrest announcement.
Turner was taken into custody and charged with robbery involving the infliction or threat of bodily injury, aggravated assault and possession of instruments of crime.
Police said Turner also faces additional charges but did not identify those offenses in the announcement.
The department did not disclose what allegedly preceded the confrontation or whether Turner and the victim knew each other.
Turner is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
