HENDERSON, N.C. — A manhunt is underway after a mother and her son were fatally shot Sunday evening in Henderson, prompting a homicide investigation and a public alert for the suspect.
Officers with the Henderson Police Department responded to the 900 block of Maple Street at approximately 6:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
The victims were identified as Teresa Davis, 63, and her son, Joseph Jeffreys Jr., 26, both residents of Maple Street. Medical personnel pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
Detectives with the department have since obtained warrants for 41-year-old Michael Sharron Wright in connection with the double homicide. Police say Wright fled the area in a white Hyundai Sonata with North Carolina license plate KEE-6554.
Authorities caution that Wright is armed and dangerous and should not be approached. “This is an active and ongoing investigation,” the department said in a statement.

Wright’s motive has not been released, and police have not stated whether the victims knew the suspect. Investigators are asking anyone with information about Wright’s whereabouts to call the Henderson Police Department at (252) 438-4141 or dial 911.
As of Tuesday, no new sightings of Wright have been reported. Police are continuing to follow leads in the area and beyond.
The killings have drawn concern from Maple Street residents, though police have not released further details on the events that led to the shooting.
The Henderson Police Department is also encouraging the public to submit tips that could aid in the investigation or help locate Wright.
