MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – The Manchester Township Police Department recently held a swearing-in ceremony for three new patrolmen: Carlos Belardo, Michael Contreras, and Ryan Thompson. The event, which took place on July 15, was officiated by Clerk Teri Giercyk and attended by family, friends, and local officials.
Chief Antonio Ellis expressed his confidence in the new recruits, highlighting their preparedness and dedication. “When welcoming new Patrolmen to the ranks of the Manchester Township Police Department, our residents can rest assured that the upcoming generation of officers have what it takes to serve our Township,” he stated.
Patrolman Carlos Belardo, originally from Manhattan, New York, joined the department on July 8. Prior to this, Belardo was involved with the NYPD as a Cadet Explorer and later served in the United States Army Reserves as a Combat Medic. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree and is set to enter the Ocean County Police Academy this September.
Patrolman Michael Contreras, a native of Bogota, Colombia, brings extensive experience from his previous role at the Egg Harbor Township Police Department. During his tenure, Contreras earned several certifications and awards, including the Life-Saving award and the Firearms award.
Completing the trio, Patrolman Ryan Thompson, a graduate of Lacey Township High School and Ocean County College, has gained significant policing experience through his roles in Seaside Park and Absecon before transferring to the Brielle Police Department earlier this year.
Chief Ellis also thanked Mayor Robert Arace and the Township Council for their support of the police department’s mission to serve the community effectively. The addition of these three patrolmen is a significant boost to the department’s capabilities and community relations.
