NEW YORK, NY – The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has indicted 63-year-old Anthony Jordan for the murder of 47-year-old Michael Smith in East Harlem. District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. announced the charges against Jordan, which include Murder in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.

The tragic incident occurred on March 17, 2024, around 12:20 p.m., when Jordan, reportedly unannounced, entered an apartment on East 132nd Street and Park Avenue where Smith was staying. Court records reveal that Jordan confronted Smith with a knife, leading to a struggle that resulted in Smith being stabbed multiple times and ultimately pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Following the incident, Jordan fled the scene but was apprehended at his residence two days later. The case, which remains under investigation to determine Jordan’s motive, is being prosecuted by Assistant D.A.s Hannah Yu and Katelyn Damanis, under the guidance of senior officials in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

District Attorney Bragg expressed his determination to secure justice for Smith’s family and loved ones, acknowledging the profound grief they must endure following such a violent and senseless loss. The DA’s office also extended gratitude towards the NYPD for their critical role in the investigation and arrest of the suspect.
