Maryland Man Arrested Intentionally Setting Mom’s Car on Fire

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A 24-year-old Cumberland man has been arrested for allegedly setting his mother’s vehicle on fire in early November, authorities said.

Deputy State Fire Marshals, with assistance from the Cumberland Police Department, took Terry Lynn Ford Jr. into custody Wednesday in connection with the November 1 fire outside 883 Patterson Avenue.

Firefighters responded just after 8 a.m. and found a 2005 Toyota Camry Solara ablaze. A joint investigation between the Cumberland Fire Marshal’s Office and the Office of the State Fire Marshal determined the fire was intentionally set, causing approximately $5,000 in damage to the car and a nearby home.

Ford initially told investigators the vehicle had been inoperable for months and claimed he woke up to the sound of explosions before attempting to extinguish the fire.
