Social media content creator arrested for allegedly setting fire to film firefighter response

CHARLES COUNTY, Md. — A Prince Frederick man who films emergency responses for social media content was arrested Friday after investigators determined he intentionally set fire to a vacant commercial building and made false 911 calls, authorities said.

The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal said Joshua Christian-Stanley Jackson, 21, was responsible for the fire that broke out on February 22 at 12535 Crain Highway. Firefighters from Newburg Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department, along with surrounding departments, responded to the blaze around 8:30 p.m. and quickly extinguished it.

Investigators determined the fire was deliberately set and identified Jackson as the first 911 caller. Authorities said he had a history of filming emergency services for social media.

Jackson was taken into custody earlier Friday as officials continue their investigation.
