BOWIE, Md. — A 40-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his mother following a domestic violence incident Saturday afternoon in the city of Bowie, according to the Prince George’s County Police Department.
The suspect, James Calero of Bowie, is accused of fatally assaulting 72-year-old Susan Calero, who was found unconscious with severe trauma in her home in the 12000 block of Blackwell Lane. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
City of Bowie Police responded to the residence around 3:55 p.m. after receiving a call for a domestic disturbance. A second woman was found inside the home with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Investigators believe James Calero attacked both women during a domestic dispute before fleeing the home. He was later apprehended by officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Suspect arrested, faces murder and assault charges
Calero has been charged with first-degree murder, assault, and other related offenses. He is currently in the custody of the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections.
Police have not released further details about the second victim or the nature of the dispute that led to the assault. The case remains under active investigation.
The Prince George’s County Police Department investigates all homicides that occur within the city limits of Bowie.
