Queens, NY – A five-alarm fire ripped through a multi-story building early Tuesday morning in Queens, drawing more than 270 members of the New York City Fire Department to battle the fast-moving flames and evacuate nearby structures. Officials said the fire broke out at 1824 Madison Street and quickly spread throughout the building.
Chief of Department John Esposito said firefighters arrived to find heavy fire on the first floor that extended vertically through interior shafts, igniting multiple floors and collapsing the roof into the top level. Four neighboring buildings were also evacuated as a precaution due to exposure and heat damage.

Chief of EMS Operations Paul Miano said six people were treated and transported to local hospitals, including five firefighters and one civilian, all suffering minor injuries. No fatalities were reported.
