Massive police response unfolds on quiet Bridgewater street

Shelter in place issued as police swarm Bridgewater neighborhood

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — Residents in part of Bridgewater Township were told to shelter in place Thursday as police descended on a neighborhood for an active investigation centered around a single home, authorities said.

The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office announced law enforcement personnel remain on scene in the area of Hill Lane in Bridgewater Township as the investigation continues.

Officials said the incident is currently contained to one residence and there is no threat to the public at large.

Residents living nearby were advised to continue sheltering in place until further notice.

Motorists were also urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes while investigators work the scene.

Authorities have not released details about the nature of the investigation.

Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald, Acting Chief of County Detectives Meredith McKay and Bridgewater Township Police Chief John Mitzak said additional information will be released when appropriate.
