TOMS RIVER, NJ – Toms River Mayor Maurice “Mo” Hill is doing a damage control tour after a recent property tax reassessment drove taxes up for many senior citizens on fixed budgets in the community.
According to Hill’s confidential secretary Art Gallagher, in a prepared statement today, Hill, Council President Kevin Geoghegan, Council President Matthew Lotano and JoAnn Benson, Director of Human Services, we [sic] guest of the Greenbriar Woodlands Community Association this morning.”
Gallagher said Hill presented the Township’s many accomplishments, despite the pandemic, since he took office two years ago and fielded questions from the very engaged audience, in what sounds more like a 2023 election stump with his running mates than a community service focused visit.
The Hill administration has been in damage control mode since thousands of seniors citizens across Toms River saw tax property hikes as much as 75% this year.
In a statement to the community, Council President Kevin Geoghegan stated, “It is what it is. You die. And you pay taxes.”
Council President Geoghegan answered questions about the Fire District election which is coming up this Saturday, February 12 in which he is personally pushing candidates to support his political agenda.
