Mega Millions luck strikes College Park with big winner

A Maryland Lottery player turned a standard Mega Millions win into a bigger payday thanks to the game’s built-in multiplier feature

COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A Mega Millions ticket sold in Prince George’s County is worth $20,000 after a player matched four white balls and the Mega Ball in Tuesday night’s drawing.

The Maryland Lottery announced that the third-tier winning ticket was sold at College Park Xtra Fuel, located at 8721 Baltimore Avenue in College Park.

The winning numbers for the June 9 drawing were 09, 30, 36, 38 and 40, with a Mega Ball of 03.

Lottery officials said the ticket matched four of the five white balls and the Mega Ball, a combination that normally pays $10,000.

However, the ticket included an automatic X2 multiplier, doubling the prize to $20,000.

The winner has not yet been identified.

According to the Maryland Lottery, this marks the second consecutive Mega Millions drawing in which a Maryland retailer sold a $20,000-winning ticket. An Essex retailer sold a similar winning ticket in the previous drawing.

Meanwhile, the Mega Millions jackpot continues to grow.

No player matched all six numbers in Tuesday night’s drawing, pushing the jackpot for Friday night’s drawing to an estimated annuity value of $413M, with an estimated cash option of $182.6M.

Winners have 182 days from the drawing date to claim Mega Millions prizes.
