Sherrill taps close ally Jill Hirsch to lead New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority
Trenton, NJ – Governor Mikie Sherrill’s longtime confidante and political adviser Jill Hirsch has been appointed as the new president and CEO of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, the state agency that oversees the Meadowlands Sports Complex. The appointment, confirmed by the NJSEA Board of Commissioners on Thursday, positions Hirsch at the center of one of New Jersey’s most high-profile public agencies ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Governor Sherrill praised Hirsch’s record of public service and deep understanding of state operations, calling her “an exceptional leader” uniquely suited to guide the NJSEA during a period of global attention and major economic opportunity. Hirsch’s appointment takes effect January 23, just months before New Jersey hosts several World Cup matches, including the tournament’s final at MetLife Stadium.

The Meadowlands complex, managed by the NJSEA, is expected to become a central hub for international tourism and economic activity this summer. Hirsch’s leadership will be critical in coordinating infrastructure, hospitality, and transportation operations tied to the global event.
Hirsch, a resident of Montclair and one of Sherrill’s earliest political allies, expressed gratitude for the governor’s confidence and pledged to continue advancing the authority’s mission of economic growth and public accountability. “This is an especially exciting moment for our state,” Hirsch said. “The World Cup presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive jobs, tourism, and long-term investment while showcasing New Jersey to a global audience.”
NJSEA Board Chairman John Ballantyne echoed those sentiments, describing Hirsch as a proven public servant with the operational judgment to navigate complex state projects. He also commended outgoing acting president Nick Mammano for his “steady and principled service.”
Before her appointment, Hirsch served as statewide Political Director and co-lead of the coordinated campaign that helped elect Sherrill and other Democratic candidates across the state. She previously worked as Sherrill’s District Director during her time in Congress, managing constituent operations and liaising with state and federal partners.
Hirsch began her career as an attorney with the Legal Aid Society, representing children in abuse, neglect, and custody cases, and later worked in adoption and child advocacy. She also served on the Board of Directors of CASA of Essex County.
