Missouri teen sentenced to decades in prison after Waffle House robbery and fatal shooting

A violent two-month span of crime in Kansas City ended with a teenager facing decades behind bars after prosecutors secured convictions in both a restaurant robbery and a separate fatal shooting weeks later.

KANSAS CITY, MO – An 18-year-old Missouri defendant has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a Waffle House robbery that prosecutors say unfolded at gunpoint, coming months after he pleaded guilty in a separate homicide case tied to a convenience store shooting. The Clay County Prosecutor’s Office announced the latest conviction Wednesday, marking the second major sentence against Undrellius Fleck stemming from incidents in August and September.

According to prosecutors, the August robbery began around 10:20 p.m. when a man and his ex-girlfriend arrived at a Waffle House in Kansas City. After the woman stepped outside, the man followed her—only to encounter Fleck moments later. What followed, investigators said, escalated quickly into an armed confrontation that spilled back into the restaurant.

Details of the Waffle House robbery
“The victim fled back inside, jumped over the counter, and hid behind a waitress,” the Clay County Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release. “The Defendant pursued him into Waffle House, pointed a black Glock handgun equipped with a tactical light at the victim, and demanded his cellphone.”

Court documents obtained by KCTV state Fleck shouted, “Give me your phone,” before escalating the threat. “Hurry up,” he said, at one point aiming the weapon at the waitress and telling her, “I’ll shoot you.”

The victim handed over his phone, and Fleck fled. Prosecutors said a witness later identified him in a photo lineup. “Fortunately, no one was physically injured during the commission of the crime,” the prosecutor’s office stated, though the waitress later told police she believed she would not survive the encounter.

Investigators also linked Fleck to the scene through the victim’s ex-girlfriend. Police said she had been stopped the day before the robbery while speaking on the phone with someone they later identified as Fleck.

Connection to fatal September shooting
Roughly a month later, authorities said Fleck was involved in a separate incident that turned deadly at a Kansas City convenience store in Jackson County. According to law enforcement, Fleck arrived just before midnight in a gray Nissan and was armed with a firearm believed to have been modified with a “switch,” converting it to fully automatic capability.

During the encounter, a man entered the store and was confronted by Fleck and another defendant. When gunfire erupted, investigators said the weapon discharged in a manner consistent with automatic fire. The victim was struck multiple times and died at the scene. Court records indicate Fleck then took the victim’s firearm and fled.

Earlier this year, Fleck pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and robbery charges connected to that shooting. He was sentenced in May to 23 years in prison.

The 30-year sentence handed down this week for the Waffle House robbery will run concurrently with the earlier sentence, meaning both terms will be served at the same time.
