Deadly morning crash on Route 20 in Charlton leaves one driver dead and another airlifted

Charlton, MA — A two-vehicle crash during the morning commute on Route 20 left one driver dead and another flown to a hospital, as multiple agencies launched an investigation into what led to the collision.

The crash was reported Tuesday at approximately 7:45 a.m., prompting a response from the Charlton Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.

One of the drivers involved was pronounced dead at the scene. The second driver was transported by medical helicopter to UMass Memorial Hospital with injuries that officials said are not believed to be life-threatening.

Authorities have not released the identities of those involved as the investigation remains active.

Officials confirmed that the crash is being examined by State Police detectives assigned to the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office, along with Charlton Police, State Police Crime Scene Services, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Route 20 remained an active scene as investigators worked to determine the sequence of events that led to the fatal collision.
