TRENTON, N.J. — Monday morning commuters across New Jersey encountered a mix of crashes and heavy volume-related delays, especially in northern and central parts of the state.

A crash on NJ 495 westbound east of U.S. 1&9 in North Bergen Township blocked the left lane as of 7:38 a.m., contributing to congestion in the area. Meanwhile, on the New Jersey Turnpike’s inner roadway northbound near Interchange 13 in Linden, a crash had vehicles moved to the left shoulder. All lanes remained open, but delays persisted due to rubbernecking.

Motorists heading into New York City faced extended travel times. Both levels of the George Washington Bridge experienced 20-minute delays westbound on the Cross Bronx Expressway. Eastbound delays were more severe, with travel times of 30 minutes on the lower level and 40 minutes on the upper level between I-80 and the Alexander Hamilton Bridge.

At the Lincoln Tunnel, traffic heading eastbound from New Jersey faced 30-minute travel times through both the center and south tunnels, starting from Turnpike Exit 16E. Similar delays were reported at the Holland Tunnel, with 25-minute backups from Exit 14C and 30-minute backups from Route 139 at Tonnelle Circle.

In South Jersey, NJ 29 southbound experienced minor delays from I-295 in Hamilton Township to Thunder Road in Trenton. All lanes remained open through the affected stretch.

Garden State Parkway delays widespread

The Garden State Parkway was heavily congested at multiple points. Southbound drivers saw a 2-mile delay between Bloomfield and East Orange. Northbound, a 2-mile delay developed between Exit 82A in Toms River Township and the Toms River Toll Plaza. Another 1.5-mile backup extended from Lakewood Township to Brick Township.

Further north, delays grew longer near Woodbridge Township. A 4-mile backup stretched from north of Exit 130 to south of Exit 135. Exiting at Exit 130 and Exit 127 also saw delays due to volume.

In Union Township, drivers faced a 3-mile northbound delay between Exit 140 and Exit 143. Additional congestion was reported from Exit 145 in East Orange to Exit 149 in Bloomfield, also spanning 3 miles.

Traffic on NJ 55 northbound in Deptford Township moved slowly from Exit 56 to Exit 13, though all lanes remained open.
