Allegheny County Police said a motorcyclist was critically injured Sunday evening after losing control while attempting a wheelie and striking a utility pole.
WEST HOMESTEAD, Pa. – A motorcyclist was hospitalized in critical condition Sunday evening after a crash in West Homestead that police say happened while he was attempting a wheelie.
Allegheny County 911 received a report of a single-motorcycle crash in the 600 block of West 7th Avenue at 5:43 p.m. First responders found an adult male rider critically injured and transported him to an area hospital.

Police Say Rider Lost Control During Wheelie
Allegheny County Police released their initial account of the crash Sunday evening.
“Preliminary information shows the victim attempted to do a wheelie when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck a utility pole,” the department said.
Police have not released the motorcyclist’s name or age.
No other vehicle was mentioned in the initial report, and investigators described the incident as a single-motorcycle collision.
The department cautioned that its preliminary findings could change as detectives continue gathering information.
Homicide Unit Investigating West Homestead Crash
The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded after West Homestead requested assistance with the investigation.
Despite the unit’s name, its involvement does not mean police are alleging a homicide. County homicide detectives routinely investigate serious and fatal incidents when local departments request assistance.
Authorities have not announced any additional information about what happened immediately before the rider attempted the wheelie.
