Nassau County jury convicted Hicksville man of predatory sexual assault and weapons charges

MINEOLA, NY — An MS-13 member who prosecutors say subjected a 32-year-old woman to months of armed threats, violence and harassment before sexually assaulting her at gunpoint was sentenced Wednesday to 25 years to life in prison.

Jayden Abadi Alvarado Velasquez, 40, of Hicksville, received the sentence following his May 6 jury conviction, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly announced.

A jury convicted Alvarado Velasquez of predatory sexual assault, three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, attempted second-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree assault and aggravated harassment.

Prosecutors said the abuse began after Alvarado Velasquez met the woman at a neighborhood deli on Aug. 26, 2023.

The following day, he showed up at her apartment and threatened her at gunpoint, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said that marked the beginning of weeks of abuse, threats and harassment.

The case culminated in events on Nov. 26, 2023, when Alvarado Velasquez smashed the woman’s cellphone and physically assaulted her during an altercation in her vehicle, according to prosecutors.

He then drove her to a psychiatric center in Brentwood.

There, prosecutors said, Alvarado Velasquez threatened to cut off her hand and claimed he had killed a former girlfriend and buried her on the property.

He threatened to kill the 32-year-old woman and bury her there as well, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Alvarado Velasquez later drove the woman to his Hicksville home, where prosecutors said he sexually assaulted her.

Three days later, he sent the woman intimidating text messages that included a video showing two firearms previously used to threaten her life, prosecutors said.

Nassau County police searched his bedroom later that day and recovered a handgun, a magazine, ammunition and multiple New York state identification cards bearing his photograph but different names.

Detectives also recovered a loaded handgun, magazine and ammunition from a jacket Alvarado Velasquez had been wearing, according to prosecutors.

He was arrested Nov. 29, 2023, by the Nassau County Police Department’s Criminal Intelligence Rapid Response Team.

Donnelly said the sentence ends the defendant’s ability to continue the violence against the victim.

Alvarado Velasquez was sentenced by Judge Robert McDonald to 25 years to life in prison.
