EDGEWATER, NJ – Police were called and an online Zoom meeting was put into virtual lockdown in New Jersey after a teacher spotted a nerf gun in the home of one of their students. The incident happened in Edgewater, New Jersey. After seeing the gun, the teacher locked the boy out of the Zoom meeting and notified police, who later showed up a the young boy’s home to investigate. It turned out it was a nerf gun in view of the camera at the child’s home.
The boy, according to Superintendent of Schools Nicholas Perrapato has been suspended from school and not allowed back into the district’s virtual learning classroom until the incident is “further investigated”.
Police left the boy’s home without incident. According to the boy’s father, when the teacher saw the boy had a gun, she told him to put it away, kicked him out of the meeting then called the cops.
Perrapato said the teacher felt the boy could be in distress and kicking him out of the class was a measure to shield the other children from what they could have seen during the Zoom meeting.
