New Jersey man accused of repeated sexual assaults on juvenile

Prosecutors say a Hackensack man sexually assaulted a juvenile on more than one occasion, leading to multiple felony charges.

HACKENSACK, N.J. — A 44-year-old Hackensack man has been charged with sexually assaulting a juvenile multiple times following an investigation by county and local authorities, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said Jose E. Polanco was arrested following an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Hackensack Police Department.

The investigation began on May 24 when Hackensack police contacted the prosecutor’s office regarding allegations of the sexual assault of a juvenile in the city.

According to investigators, the joint investigation determined that Polanco sexually assaulted the juvenile on more than one occasion in Hackensack.

Polanco was located and arrested in Hackensack on June 18.

He is charged with six counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Authorities said Polanco was remanded to the Bergen County Jail, made his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court and was later released pending further court proceedings.

Additional details about the alleged assaults, including the age of the victim and the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the child, were not released.

The charges are accusations, and Polanco is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
