FLEMINGTON, NJ—A tragic work-related accident at Saint Magdalen Cemetery in Flemington has resulted in the death of 22-year-old Eonias Mateo-Perez. The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office and the Flemington Borough Police Department are conducting a joint investigation into the incident, which occurred on July 10, 2024.

Authorities responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:20 PM. Upon arrival, officers discovered Mateo-Perez deceased from injuries sustained while operating tree-chipping equipment. The initial findings suggest the incident was accidental.

Detectives from the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office were on site to assist in the investigation. Additionally, representatives from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) have been involved, with their full investigation still pending.
