Five Double Play numbers unlock a six-figure prize before Wednesday’s $975 million drawing
TRENTON, NJ – A $1 Powerball add-on just delivered a $500,000 payday in New Jersey after one ticket matched all five white numbers in Monday night’s Double Play drawing, giving its holder a six-figure win while the main jackpot climbed to $975 million.
The New Jersey Lottery announced the win Tuesday following the Aug. 10 drawing.
The $500,000 winning ticket was purchased through Jackpocket.
Monday’s Double Play numbers were 04, 23, 31, 32 and 57. The Double Play ball was 23.
The winning ticket matched all five white balls but missed the Double Play ball, earning the $500,000 second-tier prize.
Double Play is an optional feature available to Powerball players for an additional $1 per play.
Players who purchase the feature keep their original Powerball numbers for a separate Double Play drawing, which offers a top prize of $10 million.
The regular Powerball drawing Monday produced winning numbers 06, 37, 54, 55 and 64. The Powerball was 10, and the Power Play multiplier was 3X.
Nobody captured the Powerball jackpot Monday night, pushing the estimated grand prize to $975 million for Wednesday’s drawing.
The New Jersey Lottery did not release identifying information about the holder of the $500,000 ticket.
The winning entry was purchased through Jackpocket rather than a traditional retail lottery location.
New Jersey’s lottery began operating in 1970 and has contributed nearly $35.7 billion to the state, according to the lottery.
Lottery profits currently help support New Jersey’s public employee pension system through a 30-year agreement enacted in 2017.
For one New Jersey ticket, the biggest number Monday wasn’t the $975 million jackpot waiting Wednesday — it was the $500,000 prize produced by a $1 Double Play add-on.
