Newark issues storm advisory ahead of heavy weekend snowfall

Newark, NJ – The Newark Department of Public Safety is urging residents to prepare for significant snow accumulation expected from Sunday into Monday, with forecasters predicting between seven and eleven inches across the city.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. said snow is expected to begin after 1 a.m. Sunday, with light accumulation early before intensifying throughout the day and continuing into the night. Another two to four inches of snow may fall Sunday evening, potentially making travel difficult across Newark.

Residents are being reminded to obey “No Parking on Snow-Covered Roads” signs and avoid double parking during snow emergencies to allow plows to clear streets safely. Vehicles parked illegally on designated snow routes may be ticketed or towed.

Residents are asked to call 973-733-6000 for non-emergency weather-related matters and dial 911 for emergencies.
