NEWARK, N.J. – Newark authorities are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a 35-year-old woman wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting that occurred Friday morning on Hawthorne Avenue.
Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. said police are searching for Shakinah Bloomfield of Newark, who investigators believe may have information related to the incident.
At about 10:11 a.m. on January 17, the city’s ShotSpotter detection system alerted officers to gunfire near Hawthorne Avenue and Elizabeth Avenue, close to a White Castle restaurant. Responding officers canvassed the area and found six shell casings at the scene.
Investigators reviewing surveillance footage observed a suspect exiting a white GMC SUV while holding what appeared to be a rifle-style weapon before walking toward Hawthorne Avenue. Police have not reported any injuries or arrests connected to the shooting.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on Bloomfield’s whereabouts to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Anonymous tips can also be submitted through the department’s website, and may be eligible for a reward.
