NJ AG identifies woman killed in police shooting during medical call in Lacey Township
LACEY TOWNSHIP, NJ — Authorities have identified the woman killed in a police-involved shooting during a medical call in Ocean County earlier this week, officials said.
Susanne Clarke, 55, of Lacey Township, was fatally shot during an encounter with police in the Lanoka Harbor section of the township, according to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office.
Officers were dispatched shortly after 2 a.m. on March 16 to a home on Hemlock Drive near Birch Road for a reported medical emergency.
During the encounter outside the residence around 2:44 a.m., Lacey Township Police Officer Dallas Gant fired his service weapon, striking Clarke, authorities said.
She was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 3:24 a.m.
Investigators said a knife was recovered outside the home.
The Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability is leading the investigation, as required under New Jersey law for all deaths involving law enforcement.
The case will be presented to a grand jury to determine whether the evidence supports criminal charges.
