Deadly park ambush ends with life sentence for gunman

BROOKLYN, NY — A gunman who fired into a group of teenagers at a Brooklyn park, killing two and wounding a third, has been sentenced to 32 years to life in prison, prosecutors said.

Joshua Bonilla, 29, was convicted of murder and attempted murder for the July 2020 shooting in Cypress Hills.

Authorities said Bonilla fired about 10 shots into George Walker Jr. Park as a group of teens gathered, striking three victims.

Antonio Villa, 18, and Kleimer Piron, 16, were both shot in the head and killed. A third victim, a 17-year-old boy, survived.

Prosecutors said Bonilla was driven to the scene in a stolen vehicle by Bryant Perez, 20, who pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

Investigators said the pair targeted the area while searching for rival gang members.
