Nyc man attacks 10-year-old boy and his grandmother over skateboard mishap

NEW YORK, NY – A Sunday morning stroll turned violent when a grandmother and her grandson were attacked after a minor collision on a Lower Manhattan street.

The confrontation unfolded around 7:25 a.m. at East Broadway and Market Street as the pair crossed the intersection.

Moments earlier, the 10-year-old boy’s skateboard had brushed against an unidentified man, sparking a heated argument that escalated into a physical assault.

Police said the suspect struck both victims during the altercation, leaving the elderly woman with a cut to her lip and the boy with redness and pain on his face. Emergency medical services responded quickly, taking both to NY Downtown Presbyterian for treatment.

The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction before officers arrived. He is described as a male last seen wearing a multicolored coat, blue jeans, and white sneakers.

Search underway for suspect in random attack

Detectives are canvassing the area for surveillance footage and witnesses who may have seen the suspect before or after the incident. The motive behind the attack appears to stem solely from the brief skateboard contact, police said.
