NYPD searches for suspect in Bronx robbery involving knife threat

63-year-old man confronted after package theft attempt outside his home, police say.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – The New York City Police Department is seeking a suspect accused of threatening a Bronx resident with a knife during a robbery attempt outside a home in the 49th Precinct.

The incident occurred Sunday, March 27, at approximately 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Bogart Avenue and Woodmansten Place. According to NYPD Crimestoppers, a 63-year-old male victim was approached by an unidentified individual who removed a package from the victim’s front porch.

Knife displayed during confrontation

Police said the victim pursued the suspect in an attempt to recover his property. During the confrontation, the individual displayed a knife, escalating the situation into a robbery.

The suspect ultimately dropped the package, allowing the victim to retrieve it, before fleeing the scene on foot eastbound along Lydig Avenue. No injuries were reported.

Investigation ongoing in 49th Precinct

The case is being investigated by the NYPD’s 49th Precinct, with assistance from Crime Stoppers as authorities work to identify the suspect. No description of the individual has been released.

Incidents involving porch thefts that escalate into violent encounters remain a growing concern in residential neighborhoods, particularly as victims attempt to intervene.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward. “Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477),” the department said.
