QUEENS, N.Y. – The NYPD is asking for the public’s help finding a gunman wanted after a 21-year-old man was shot during an early-morning confrontation in Astoria.

The shooting happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in front of 38-04 28th Avenue within the 114th Precinct. Police said the victim was part of a group involved in a physical dispute with another group.

As the confrontation unfolded, an unidentified man from the opposing group pulled a gun and fired, striking the 21-year-old once in his right leg, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers.

Gunman Flees Queens Shooting in White Hyundai

The shooter did not remain at the scene.

Police said he fled westbound on 28th Avenue in a white Hyundai Elantra. The NYPD has released images in an effort to identify and locate the person wanted for questioning in the assault.

After being shot, the victim was transported by private means to Mount Sinai Queens.

He was listed in stable condition, according to police. No other injuries were disclosed in the Crime Stoppers alert.

Police have also not said whether the victim knew the shooter or anyone else in the opposing group.

The investigation remains active as detectives work to identify the man seen in the images released by Crime Stoppers.
