Ocean County Door Dash hit and run driver turns himself in to police

MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ – A Door Dash driver wanted for a hit and run collision has turned himself into police.

On January 23, 2022 at 8:45 pm, the Manchester Township Police Department responded to the 900 block of Birmingham Avenue in the Pine Lake Park section of the township for a reported hit and run motor vehicle crash involving a parked vehicle. During the preliminary investigation, it was learned that a residential surveillance camera was able to capture the crash, which showed a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado colliding into a parked 2007 Honda Civic. The footage also captured the driver exit the vehicle and approach the residence to deliver food.

The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado was a Door Dasher and after delivering the food to the resident, failed to report the crash to the owner, as well as the police, and left the scene. Door Dash was contacted by the Manchester Township Police Department and unfortunately only provided some limited information, identifying the Door Dash driver as “Richard E.”

After posting the video of the unknown Door Dash driver to our social media accounts, we received numerous tips from our followers to help us identify the vehicle and driver.

On January 28, 2022, the driver of the Chevrolet Silverado, Mr. Richard Ethier, 62, of Berkely, NJ, responded to our police headquarters and identified himself as the Door Dash driver operating the Chevrolet Silverado in the video. Mr. Ethier was subsequently issued motor vehicle summonses for Careless Driving 39:4-97, Leaving the Scene of an Accident 39:4-129D, and Failure to Report an Accident 39:4-130. This motor vehicle crash was investigated by the Manchester Township Police Department’s Patrol Division.
