STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. — A shooting in the Stratford Place subdivision Tuesday evening left one man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a confrontation involving an off-duty federal agent, authorities said.

Deputies responded to North Jenny Lynn Road at approximately 6:35 p.m. after receiving reports of an individual recklessly riding an off-road motorcycle. A confrontation occurred between the motorcyclist and the off-duty agent.

Acquaintances of the motorcyclist arrived, escalating the situation. Stafford County deputies attempted to defuse the disturbance, but tensions continued to rise.

During the incident, the federal agent’s firearm discharged, striking an adult male resident. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Authorities said the scene is secure, but the roadway remains closed as the investigation continues.
