TOLEDO, OH — A suspect involved in a violent domestic disturbance in Toledo has died from injuries sustained during a police intervention. The incident occurred on Tuesday in the 1600 block of Vance Street.
Toledo Police were called to the scene at approximately 8:15 AM after reports of a disorder. Upon arrival, they found the suspect’s elderly grandmother with a stab wound to her face. She reported that her great-grandchildren, ages 10, 6, and 2, were inside the residence with the suspect, who was described as behaving erratically and discussing “demonic things.”
Efforts to communicate with the suspect were met with resistance as she barricaded the door and later attempted to stab an officer through a partially opened door. Despite deploying a taser and breaking a front window to gain entry, police were forced to escalate their response when the suspect, armed with a knife, moved towards the children in the attic.
A SWAT officer ultimately shot the suspect after negotiation attempts failed, enabling officers to rescue the children. The suspect was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to her injuries overnight.
