One Dead, Others Injured in Northeast D.C. Traffic Accident

August 30, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A fatal crash that occurred on Wednesday evening in Northeast Washington is currently under investigation.

The incident happened at approximately 6:41 p.m. on August 28, when the driver of a 2012 Infiniti FX35 was traveling at a high rate of speed on Eastern Avenue, Northeast. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Bunker Hill Road, it ran a red light and collided with a 2022 Hyundai Tucson that was crossing on a green light. The Infiniti then lost control, crossed the double yellow lines, and struck a 2024 Fengyuan Rossi scooter occupied by two females, causing them to be ejected from the scooter. The vehicle eventually crashed into a tree before coming to a stop in a nearby field.

DC Fire and EMS personnel arrived on the scene and transported the driver of the Infiniti and one of the women from the scooter to a local hospital. The other woman on the scooter was pronounced dead at the scene.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward by calling (202) 727-9099 or texting to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
