Claymont armed robbery at shopping center prompts police search for two suspects

Claymont, DE– A planned online sale turned into an armed robbery Monday night in a busy Claymont shopping center parking lot, leaving a Pennsylvania man shaken after two suspects allegedly pulled guns and stole his belongings before fleeing.

The incident unfolded around 7:45 p.m. in the parking lot of the Town & Country Shopping Center at 99 Harvey Road. According to Delaware State Police, the 36-year-old victim had arranged to meet a potential buyer when the situation escalated into a robbery involving two armed suspects. The victim was not injured and contacted 9-1-1 after escaping.

Investigation details and suspect description

Troopers said the encounter began as a routine online transaction but quickly turned dangerous when the buyer drew a firearm. A second suspect then joined and also displayed a gun. The suspects went through the victim’s vehicle and took personal belongings before leaving the area prior to police arrival.

Police described the suspects as Black males wearing dark-colored clothing. No additional identifying details have been released as the investigation continues.

“The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit continues to investigate this incident,” officials stated.

Authorities are urging the public to take precautions when arranging in-person sales with strangers. “Choose busy, public meetup spots or the parking lot of your local State Police Troop,” police advised. “Let someone know where you’re going and keep transactions quick and simple. If something feels off, walk away – your safety comes first.”
