Stafford County fraud reports include fake website purchase and identity theft cases
Stafford County, VA — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office is investigating multiple fraud incidents reported on November 5, including unauthorized financial transactions, identity theft, and online scam-related losses.
In the first case, a resident on US Ford Lane reported two suspicious transactions on their account. Deputy C. M. Hidalgo responded to the complaint around 1:53 p.m. and began documenting the fraudulent activity for further investigation.
Later that evening, at 7:13 p.m., Deputy D. S. Jett responded to a separate fraud complaint on Spring Lake Drive. The victim reported that an unknown individual had opened multiple debit card accounts using their personal information, indicating possible identity theft.
Just under an hour later, at 8:05 p.m., Deputy K. F. Shifflett was called to Ironside Cove, where a resident reported falling victim to a fraudulent website. After placing an online order, the victim noticed several unauthorized charges appearing on her account.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to remain vigilant when sharing personal or financial information, especially online.
